Help and frequently asked questions

This section of the site contains answers to some common questions about this website.

On this page:

Downloading documents

Documents are available in TIFF and Adobe Acrobat/PDF format.

  • Adobe Acrobat/PDF files
To view these files, you will need to download the free Adobe Acrobat Reader from Adobe.
  • TIFF files
Your computer may already have the necessary software to open and view TIFF files. If you cannot download TIFF files, we recommend that you use the Adobe Acrobat/PDF files instead.
  • Thumbnails
A thumbnail view of documents is also available - this allows you to look at a page showing small a small screen shot of every page within a document, so that you can more easily identify the piece of information you are looking for. You will then be able to view a PDF version of the particular pages you are interested in.

Quality of documents

The plans and other documents on this website are produced by scanning in the original documents as we receive them.

Every effort is made to provide the best image possible, but this depends on the quality of the original document.

Commenting on planning applications

When a planning application is received, consultation is carried out. This typically includes informing people who may be affected by the application, such as neighbours.

Comments are accepted on applications until the published closing date, and will be taken into account during the decision-making process. You can send your comments on an application using this website:

  • Find the application on which you wish to comment. If you have been sent a letter about an application, it will contain the application number, which you can use to search for it. You can also search by address if you do not know the application number.
  • If the closing date for commenting on the application has not yet passed, you will see a link reading "make comments on this application" - follow the link to see the online comment form.

Applying for planning permission

Detailed information on the planning application process, including application forms, is available on the main council website:

Decision making

Planning applications are considered by the officers and elected councillors of Rushcliffe Borough Council. Applications are determined by the Borough Development Officer under delegated powers, or by the Development Control Committee of the Borough Council, taking into account all relevant factors. If an application is reported to the Committee, anyone may attend the meeting to hear what is discussed, but only Councillors and Officers of the Council can speak at the meeting.

The Development Control Committee meetings are normally held once a month at the Civic Centre on a Monday or Thursday evening, starting at 7pm.

Accessibility

We receive applications and plans mainly on paper, and so we scan them in so that they can be viewed on this website. We generally do not have electronic copies of the documents and plans used, and so the accessibility of certain documents may be limited. If you have a visual impairment or other condition that prevents you from being able to view the documents on our website, the following options are available to you:

  • Visit us at Rushcliffe Borough Council's Civic Centre, Pavilion Road, West Bridgford, Nottingham, NG2 5FE.
  • Phone the case officer about a particular application - their name and contact details will appear at the top of your notification letter, if you have received one. They can also be found listed with each application on this website.
  • You may also be able to access the documents at your local town or parish council.

One of our officers will be able to discuss the plan or plans in which you are interested and answer any questions you may have.
